The Legend of Guan Gong

Guan Gong, also known as Guan the Holy Great Deity: God of War Manifesting Benevolence, Bravery and Prestige: Protector of the Country and Defender of the People: Proud and Honest Supporter of Peace and Reconciliation: Promoter of Morality, Loyalty and Righteousness.  A revered deity who is prayed to by Businessmen, Politicians, Police Forces, Military/Armed Forces, Triads, art collectors for protection and status. 

The legend  of Guan Gong began in the Peach Garden where he made a brotherly pact with Liu Bei and Zhang Fei. Brought together by righteous purpose to restore the Han dynasty after rebellions by the Yellow Turban Rebellion were in motion.  At the time, China was separated into 3 states, the Wei kingdom who was led by Cao Cao, Wu Kingdom who was led by Sun Quan and Shu Kingdom who was led by Liu Bei.

The three kingdoms were constantly at war and in one occurrence, Cao Cao successfully defeated Liu Bei and his men at the Battle of Xiapi. Liu Bei managed to flee but Guan Gong was captured by Cao Cao’s forces. Acknowledging Guan Gong’s skills in battle and intellect, he asked Emperor Xian to appoint Guan Yu as a military General.  Guan Gong  returned Cao Cao’s kindness by eliminating Cao Cao’s rival, Yan Liang at the battle of Boma. But bounded by oath, Guan Gong  left Cao Cao to return to Liu Bei. Cao Cao allowed him to do so though his subordinates wanted to pursue Guan Gong. “He's just doing his duty to his lord. There's no need to pursue him." Said Cao Cao.

After many great battles, Guan Gong met his demise when Sun Quan’s forces caught up to him. Sun Quan however was contemplating if he should keep Guan Gong alive to use him to eliminate Cao Cao and Liu Bei as he too recognized Guan Gong’s abilities. Sun Quan advisors advised him otherwise.
