Lunar New Year Spring Cleaning Dos and Don'ts

Lunar New Year Spring Cleaning Dos and Don'ts

Why Spring Cleaning?

Spring Cleaning is done during a time before the Lunar New Year. This is to clear out old, faulty and unwanted items. Removing these items will ultimately remove stagnant energy and bring about new positive energy into homes and offices.

When Should We Do The Spring Cleaning?

The table below shows the auspicious dates that  you can carry out your spring cleaning. Note that it is best to choose a date that does not clash with any of your family members’ or your own Chinese Zodiac.

2022 Auspicious Dates For Spring Cleaning

Things to do during Spring Cleaning for a Prosperous New Year

  • Purchase new cleaning tools such as brooms and cloths. Best to avoid using old ones.
  • If 2021 was a good year for you, begin cleaning from the main entrance and clean inwards your house. This will preserve the good energy by pushing it into your home.
  • If 2021 was a bad year for you, begin cleaning from the inner part of your house and all the way out of the main door to push out all the negative energy. This will allow new positive energy to flow in.

Things to not do

  • Once the clock strikes 12am on Lunar New Year, do not clean your house. This includes sweeping the floor, washing dishes and throwing your trash out. Sweeping your house on the first day of the Lunar New Year represents sweeping your wealth away and throwing your thrash out represents throwing out good fortune from your house.
