Feng Shui Tips for Health and Well-being
One of the most important places to practice more Feng Shui is the bedroom, because it is easy for the energy in the room to be ‘too yin’ due to the lack of sunshine and fresh air— this can eventually create stagnant energy flow and manifest illnesses.
Here are some Feng Shui Tips to balance the energy (chi) in your room:
- Do not sleep in the room at the end of a long hallway because the flow of energy will be too strong, which may eventually cause poor health
- Your bedroom door should not directly face a toilet or a staircase because it could allow bad chi to enter the room.
- Any bedroom that has been occupied by someone who was ill, should get a good airing, bright warm light, and a fresh coat of paint to attract more ‘yang’ energy.
Placement of the bed is equally important. Here are some tips on your bed placement:
- Never sleep with a mirror facing the bed because it may manifest health problems. A television counts as a mirror because it also reflects; if you must have a TV or mirror in the bedroom, cover it when it's not being used.
- Never sleep with a water feature behind your bed. A painting of a lake or waterfall, or even an aquarium may manifest health problems.
- Never sleep under a beam light. If the beam is directly over your head, you may suffer from migraines and headaches. If it crosses your chest level, it is believed that it may bring you health problems that are related to the heart, lungs, and other respiratory problems.
Here are some Feng Shui Items you should keep in your house to enhance your health luck:
- Fu Lu Sou (Fuk Luk Sau)
Sou (Sau), the most famous of the three star gods (Fuk Luk Sau) is the God of Longevity. He is usually depicted carrying with him a bottle gourd full of the nectar of Immortality, a staff, and a peach. He is often seen in homes across Asia, as he brings health and well-being to all family members. Place Sau at around eye level, and he will provide the entire family with a happy and long life.
- ‘Wu Lou’ (Bottle Gourd)
The Wu Lou (the “bottle gourd” in English) is an prominent symbol of longevity and good blessings. It is related to the God of Immortality, Sau, because he carries it with him and fills it with the nectar of Immortality. Many people also use the Wu Lou because of its distinct shape; as the top half represents heaven and the bottom half represents earth, it is said that this gourd is a manifestation of the harmony between these two places. Display the Wu Lou beside your bed for general well-being, and it will be very effective in keeping you safe from illness – this is even more so for those who are already sick.
- Peach Tree
The peach tree is one of the most valuable item in Feng Shui. In an ancient Chinese tale, it is said that the Monkey God stole a peach from 'Xi Wang Mu', the Goddess of the West's peach tree garden and attained immortality after eating it. To provide yourself and those around you with a long and healthy life, place a peach tree or peach fruit figurine/painting in the main room of your home.
- Tortoise
Out of the four celestial animals, the Tortoise is the only living creature today. Because the tortoise can live to such an old age, it is known for being a symbol of longevity. Furthermore, having a tortoise figurine in your home will safeguard your family and repel any evil.
